Ever wondered who is living the good life, and where? A new study done by MONEY with the help of realtor.com® runs down the top 100 best places to live in the U.S.
But how does one quantify “best,” a term that feels quite subjective? The study’s methodology focuses on towns with a population of 10,000 to 100,000, to avoid the big cities and spotlight smaller suburbs and towns that often get overlooked as folks gush about Portland, Ore. and Austin, Texas.
The variables MONEY focused on with these smaller places included job availability, school systems, crime rates, convenience, home values and community/cultural outlets. Realtor.com stepped in to assist with the real estate aspect, and together the two sources unveiled 100 great places to live across the country, from North Dakota to New Jersey and back again.
So what are the top 10 spots? Some may surprise you:
- Fishers, Ind.
- Allen, Texas
- Monterey Park, Calif.
- Franklin, Tenn.
- Olive Branch, Miss.
- Dickinson, N.D.
- Lone Tree, Colo.
- North Arlington, N.J.
- Schaumburg, Ill.
- Bozeman, Mont.

Manor at Oakhaven is right in the heart of Ballantyne with access to world-class golf, shopping, dining, and entertainment. There is also great access to I-485 for an uptown commute or a trip to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Many employers have a presence near Ballantyne so there are plenty of positions without an Uptown commute.
Great schools are currently zoned for Manor at Oakhaven. Children here will attend Elon Park Elementary, Community House Middle, and Ardrey Kell High Schools. There are also many private, preschool, mother’s day out and daycare options nearby.

Midtown Project in the Works
Another multi-use project is in the works, this time on the Southeast side of Uptown. Located at the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and Greenwood Cliff Road, the site is adjacent to Pearl Street Park. It is currently the home of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association and the Mingle School of Real Estate.
This great location is walking distance to Midtown Park on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. It is also walking distance to the Metropolitan Shops with plenty of shopping and dining locations.
The current building for the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association and Mingle School of Real Estate will be demolished to make way for the new project.
The first phase of construction will extend Pearl Park Way, Berkeley Avenue, and build the new headquarters for the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association and the Mingle School of Real Estate.
The subsequent three phases will have a mixture of retail, parking deck, residential, hotel, and office buildings. A timeline for construction has not yet been announced.
Pappas Properties heads up the project with the partnership with Selwyn Property Group. They now head into the planning and pre-development process. They just closed on the sale of 3.2 acres next to the current buildings which brings the total site to 5.2 acres.
This project is one to watch for sure as more and more high density projects move outside the I-277 loop. It will be a great location for millennials, families, or empty nesters alike. It remains to be seen if the units will be apartments or condos, that will depend on planning, zoning, and city council. We will be watching to see if this building follows the trends of having luxury amenities. Charlotte is teeming with projects similar to this one, so it has competition for sure.
If you are interested in learning more about this or any other project in the Charlotte area, give us a call at (704) 525-4045. You can view current listings on our website here.
