Uptown Charlotte Homes For Sale

City life in the thriving ‘Uptown’ area of Charlotte is the best place to be for all the action. Walk to NFL or NBA games from your front door, or visit on of the hundreds of music, arts, entertainment or dining establishments in the center of Charlotte, North Carolina.

What is traditionally called ‘Downtown’ was given the name ‘Uptown’ in Charlotte in the 1980’s as a way to promote the area in a positive way. Around the same time, Charlotte adopted several long-term visions for the area, including more residential, retail and entertainment in the Uptown district. Today, this is manifested in world-class events and sporting amenities, restaurants, hotels and residences, all accessible by a light rail, an inner urban highway loop (I-277) and a 20 years of trends towards mixed use, live/work/play developments.

Uptown Charlotte News

Uptown Charlotte is divided neatly into 4 ‘Wards’. Each ward is bounded by either Trade or Tryon streets in a grid pattern:

First Ward: Primarily townhomes in high density developments along the outer edge of first ward. A new park, UNCC’s Uptown Campus, Levine Museum of the New South, and The Charlotte Hornets all call First Ward home.

Second Ward: Known as the ‘Government District’, Second ward is bounded by S. Tryon on the Northwest and East Trade on the Northeast.

Third Ward: Third Ward lies south of Trade/Tryon and is home to the Knight Theater, Mint Museum and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. If you are enjoying a game at the Panthers stadium or the Charlotte Knights ballpark, you’ll find yourself in the center of Third Ward. This area is arguably the fastest growing side of Uptown.

Fourth Ward: Fourth Ward is primarily residential development and a designated historical district. Fourth Ward used to be Charlotte’s ‘Red Light’ district. Today, the NC Music Factory occupies a former industrial site in the back corner of the ward. Old Settlers Cemetery occupies a vast portion of Fourth Ward and Fourth Ward park is popular with local residents.

Major corporations are based or have major operations in Uptown Charlotte, including Bank Of America, Wells Fargo, BB&T, Ally Financial, Duke Energy & AT&T/Verizon.
