At the four intersecting corners of Providence Road (Hwy 16) and NC Highway 51, you’ll find The Arboretum. The Arboretum (referring to the number of trees integrated into the landscaping) houses a large shopping center which was built in the 1980’s and features great restaurants situated by a lake, a Cinnebarre movie theater, a few grocery stores, coffee shops, book stores, home stores & fast food. This 1980’s style shopping center is bordered by multiple residential communities, medical offices, banks and insurance companies in low-rise Carolina-style brick buildings set back off leafy streets. Down the street from Arboretum you’ll find William R. Davie Park and it’s 5 acre Davie Dog Park, along with tennis & basketball courts, softball and soccer fields, volleyball, horseshoe, walking trails, shelters for rent (cheap!), a pond and 2 playgrounds.
Many of the subsequent residential developments that are anchored by Arboretum are now prime Charlotte real estate and highly prized for those relocating to Charlotte NC, mostly for it’s amenity driven location. Homes around the Arboretum range from 1980’s architecture in golf and swim communities like Raintree Country Club, or Berkeley, Providence Plantation, Hembstead or Candlewyck. The area has infilled with newer townhomes, golf courses and golf course communities, like The Magnolias, Beverly Crest, Hampton Oaks, Providence Springs and Stonecroft. The area offers easy access to Pineville Matthews Rd (HWY 51), Providence Road, Independence Ave (HWY 74), I-485 and I-77. Wherever you go in this area, you are sure to be sitting under the huge oak canopy in this area, giving the area’s ‘Arboretum’ name true meaning.
